Robert Rossen war ein US-amerikanischer Drehbuchautor, Filmregisseur und Produzent, dessen Filmkarriere fast drei Jahrzehnte umfasste. Sein Film „All the King’s Men“ aus dem Jahr 1949 gewann Oscars für den besten Film, den besten Hauptdarsteller und die beste Nebendarstellerin, während Rossen für den Oscar für die beste Regie nominiert wurde. Er gewann den Golden Globe für die beste Regie, und der Film gewann den Golden Globe Award für den besten Film. 1961 inszenierte er „Haie der Großstadt“, der für neun Oscars nominiert war und zwei gewann.
