Burt Reynolds, eigentlich Burton Leon Reynolds Jr., war ein US-amerikanischer Schauspieler, Regisseur und Produzent und gilt als Sexsymbol und Ikone der amerikanischen Popkultur. Reynolds erlangte Bekanntheit durch seine Hauptrollen in verschiedenen Fernsehserien wie „Rauchende Colts“ (1962–1965), „Hawk“ (1966) und „Dan Oakland“ (im Original: Dan August) (1970–1971). Obwohl er auch in Filmen wie „Navajo Joe“ (1966) Hauptrollen spielte, gelang ihm der Durchbruch erst mit der Rolle des Lewis Medlock in „Beim Sterben ist jeder der Erste“ (1972). Reynolds spielte die Hauptrolle – oft einen liebenswerten Gauner – in einer Reihe nachfolgender Kassenschlager, bei einigen dieser Filme führte er auch selbst Regie. Er wurde zweimal für den Golden Globe Award als Bester Hauptdarsteller – Komödie oder Musical nominiert. Nach einigen Kinoflops kehrte Reynolds zum Fernsehen zurück und spielte die Hauptrolle in der Sitcom „Daddy schafft uns alle“ (1990–1994), für die er einen Golden Globe Award und einen Primetime Emmy Award als Bester Hauptdarsteller in einer Comedyserie erhielt. Seine Darstellung des elitären Pornografen Jack Horner in Paul Thomas Andersons „Boogie Nights“ (1997) brachte ihm erneut Kritikerlob ein und bescherte ihm einen weiteren Golden Globe (als Bester Nebendarsteller in einem Spielfilm) sowie Nominierungen für einen Oscar und einen BAFTA Award als Bester Nebendarsteller.
