Special Agent Alex Thomas hat versagt: In aller Öffentlichkeit erschießt ein Attentäter den Präsidenten. Fortan wird Alex von nagenden Selbstzweifeln zerfressen und gibt sich dem Alkohol hin. Da findet Reporterin Kate Crawford heraus, dass der Anschlag anscheinend gar nicht von einem irren Einzeltäter, sondern von einer perfekt ausgerüsteten Organisation vorbereitet wurde. Nun ist sie in großer Gefahr - alle Zeugen, mit denen sie spricht, kommen kurz darauf ums Leben. Ihre einzige Chance ist der abgehalfterte, verkaterte Thomas.
