Lionel Barrymore (geboren als Lionel Herbert Blythe; 28. April 1878 – 15. November 1954) war ein US-amerikanischer Bühnen-, Film- und Radioschauspieler sowie Filmregisseur. Für seine Darstellung in „A Free Soul“ (1931) wurde er mit dem Oscar als Bester Hauptdarsteller ausgezeichnet. Dem modernen Publikum ist er vor allem durch die Rolle des Schurken Mr. Potter in Frank Capras Film „Ist das Leben nicht schön?“ (1946) bekannt. Unvergessen bleibt auch seine Darstellung des Ebenezer Scrooge in den jährlichen Ausstrahlungen von „Eine Weihnachtsgeschichte“ während seiner letzten beiden Lebensjahre. Zudem verkörperte er Dr. Leonard Gillespie in den neun Dr.-Kildare-Filmen von MGM, eine Rolle, die er in sechs weiteren Filmen, die sich ausschließlich auf Gillespie konzentrierten, sowie in der Radioserie „Die Geschichte von Dr. Kildare“ erneut spielte. Er gehörte der Theaterfamilie Barrymore an.
