Dorothy Jean Dandridge war eine US-amerikanische Schauspielerin und Sängerin, die als erste Schwarze 1954 für die Titelrolle in Carmen Jones für den Oscar in der Kategorie Beste Hauptdarstellerin nominiert wurde. 1999 wurde mit Rising Star ihre Karriere mit Halle Berry als Dorothy Dandridge verfilmt.
