Irving Pichel war ein US-amerikanischer Schauspieler und Filmregisseur. Wie viele sprecherfahrene Theaterschauspieler wurde Pichel mit dem Beginn des Tonfilmes nach Hollywood gelotst und machte dort 1930 sein Filmdebüt. Er wurde meistens in Nebenrollen als Charakterdarsteller eingesetzt und spielte nicht selten Schurkenrollen. Parallel zu seinen Filmrollen begann Pichel, als Filmregisseur zu arbeiten. Während seine Filme in den 1930er-Jahren oft nur kostengünstig und durchwachsen inszeniert waren, stieg die Qualität seiner Produktionen mit seiner Verpflichtung zu 20th Century Fox in den 1940er-Jahren. Nachdem seine Karriere als Filmregisseur an Fahrt gewonnen hatte, war er nur noch sporadisch als Schauspieler zu sehen, manchmal trat er in kleinen Rollen seiner eigenen Filme auf. Außerdem war er als Sprecher fürs Radio tätig und war als Erzählerstimme in John Fords Filmen So grün war mein Tal und Der Teufelshauptmann zu hören.
