Louis Cameron Gossett Jr. war ein US-amerikanischer Schauspieler. Er gab sein Bühnendebüt mit 17 Jahren. Kurz darauf erhielt er eine Rolle in dem Broadway-Stück „Take a Giant Step“. Er spielte weiterhin in gefeierten Theaterstücken wie „A Raisin in the Sun“ (1959), „The Blacks“ (1961), „Tambourines to Glory“ (1963) und „The Zulu and the Zayda“ (1965). 1977 wirkte Gossett in der beliebten Miniserie „Roots“ mit, für die er bei den Emmy Awards als Bester Hauptdarsteller in einer Drama- oder Comedyserie ausgezeichnet wurde. 1982 erhielt er für seine Rolle als Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley in „Ein Offizier und Gentleman“ den Oscar als Bester Nebendarsteller und war damit der erste afroamerikanische Schauspieler, dem diese Ehre zuteilwurde.
