Leigh Whannell (* 17. Januar 1977) ist ein australischer Filmemacher und Schauspieler. Er schrieb die Drehbücher für mehrere Filme, die von seinem Freund James Wan inszeniert wurden, darunter Saw (2004), Dead Silence (2007), Insidious (2010) und Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013). Mit Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015) gab Whannell sein Regiedebüt und führte seither bei drei weiteren Filmen Regie: Upgrade (2018), Der Unsichtbare (2020) und Wolf Man (2025). Whannell und Wan sind die Schöpfer der Saw-Reihe. Whannell schrieb das Drehbuch für den ersten Teil, war Co-Autor des zweiten und dritten Teils, produzierte oder fungierte als Executive Producer aller Filme und verkörperte in drei der Teile die Rolle des Adam Stanheight. Er war außerdem Autor des Videospiels Saw (2009) und Co-Autor des Films Cooties (2014).
