Lloyd Francis Bacon war ein US-amerikanischer Schauspieler und Filmregisseur, der auf der Bühne, im Varieté und im Film tätig war. Als Regisseur drehte er Filme in zahlreichen Genres, darunter Western, Musicals, Komödien, Gangsterfilme und Kriminaldramen. Er war einer der Regisseure bei Warner Bros. in den 1930er Jahren, die dem Studio zu seinem Ruf für düstere, temporeiche und tagesaktuelle Actionfilme verhalfen. Mit seiner Regiearbeit an Warner Bros.‘ „Die 42. Straße“ trug er gemeinsam mit Busby Berkeley, dem Regisseur der Gesangs- und Tanzeinlagen, zu einem „sofortigen und dauerhaften Klassiker bei, der das Musical-Genre revolutionierte“.
