Lloyd Vernet Bridges, Jr. (* 15. Januar 1913 in San Leandro, Kalifornien; † 10. März 1998 in Los Angeles, Kalifornien) war ein US-amerikanischer Schauspieler. Bereits 1936 spielte der junge, gutaussehende Kalifornier in den ersten Filmen, ohne größeres Aufsehen zu erregen. In seinen Hollywood-Filmen spielte Lloyd Bridges zwar größere Nebenrollen oder Hauptrollen, konnte sich jedoch nie als einer der Top-Filmstars durchsetzen. Dennoch bleibt er mit vielen guten Nebenrollen in Erinnerung. Er spielte unter anderem in Zwölf Uhr mittags (1952) die Rolle des impulsiven und kindischen Deputy Marshal Harvey Pell neben Grace Kelly und Gary Cooper. Erst der Durchbruch des Fernsehens machte ihn zu einem populären Schauspieler: Die Fernsehserie Abenteuer unter Wasser, in der Bridges den Taucher Mike Nelson spielte, war zwischen 1957 und 1961 eine der beliebtesten Serien im US-amerikanischen und später im deutschen Fernsehen. Nach dem Erfolg in dieser Serie spielte Bridges fast ausschließlich in Fernsehfilmen, so z. B. in The Loner, Roots oder Kampfstern Galactica. Ein Zusammenschnitt verschiedener Folgen dieser Serie kam in Europa auch in die Kinos. In Mission Galactica – Angriff der Zylonen (Mission Galactica: The Cylon Attack) (1978) spielte Bridges den Commander Cain des Kampfsternes Pegasus. In einer frühen Planungsphase für die Serie Star Trek (Raumschiff Enterprise), die ab 1966 im amerikanischen Fernsehen laufen sollte, war er für die Hauptrolle des Captains vorgesehen. Jedoch kam ein Engagement nicht zustande. Erst für Das Geheimnis der eisernen Maske (The Fifth Musketeer) (1979) kehrte er als Aramis wieder auf die Leinwand zurück. In Jim Abrahams' Komödie Die unglaubliche Reise in einem verrückten Flugzeug (1980) und in dessen Nachfolger Die unglaubliche Reise in einem verrückten Raumschiff spielte er zweimal einen erfahrenen, kettenrauchenden Fluglotsen. In der Serie Fackeln im Sturm verkörperte er in den 1980er Jahren den Konföderierten-Präsidenten Jefferson Davis. Einem jüngeren Publikum dürfte Bridges auch bekannt sein in der Rolle des Admiral Thomas „Tug“ Benson aus der sehr erfolgreichen Comedy-Filmserie Hot Shots! – Die Mutter aller Filme (1991), ebenfalls unter der Regie von Jim Abrahams. In Hot Shots! Der zweite Versuch (1993) stieg er mit der gleichen Figur sogar zum Präsidenten auf. Die Premiere zu seinem letzten Film, Mafia! – Eine Nudel macht noch keine Spaghetti!, erlebte der damals 85-Jährige nicht mehr. Er starb im März 1998, nur wenige Wochen nach Drehschluss. Lloyd Bridges war das Oberhaupt einer bekannten Schauspielerfamilie der USA. 1938 heiratete er seine Schulliebe Dorothy Dean Simpson († Februar 2009), die Ehe hielt bis zu seinem Tod.
