John Allen Amos Jr. war ein US-amerikanischer Schauspieler. Bekannt wurde er vor allem durch seine Rolle als James Evans Sr. in der CBS-Fernsehserie „Good Times“. Weitere bekannte Rollen waren die des erwachsenen Kunta Kinte in der wegweisenden Miniserie „Roots“, die des Captain Meissner in „Lock Up“ (1989) und die des Major Grant in „Stirb langsam 2“ (1990). Zu seinen weiteren Fernsehauftritten zählen Gastrollen in „The Mary Tyler Moore Show“, die wiederkehrende Rolle des Admiral Percy Fitzwallace in „The West Wing“ sowie die des Bürgermeisters von Washington D.C., Ethan Baker, in der Serie „The District“. Amos wurde für einen Primetime Emmy Award und einen NAACP Image Award nominiert. Im Kino spielte er zahlreiche Nebenrollen in Filmen wie „Beastmaster - Der Befreier“ (1982), „Der Prinz von Zamunda“ (1988) und „Der Prinz von Zamunda 2“ (2021).
