Stanley Townsend (* August 1961) ist ein irischer Schauspieler. Er wurde in Dublin geboren und wuchs dort auf. Nach dem Besuch des Wesley College in Dublin studierte er Mathematik und Bauingenieurwesen am Trinity College. Dort schloss er sich den Dublin University Players an, der Amateurtheatergruppe des Colleges. Später gründete er zusammen mit dem Autor und Regisseur Declan Hughes und der Theaterregisseurin Lynne Parker die Theaterkooperative Rough Magic und wirkte in zahlreichen Produktionen mit, darunter „The Country Wife“, „Nightshade“ und „Sexual Perversity“ in Chicago. Anschließend spielte er in mehreren Produktionen am Gate Theatre und am Abbey Theatre in Dublin. In London arbeitete er mit Regisseuren wie Sam Mendes („The Plough and the Stars“), Richard Eyre („Guys and Dolls“) und Rufus Norris („Under the Blue Sky“) zusammen. Zu seinen Theaterauftritten am Royal Court zählen die Alice-Trilogie unter der Regie von Ian Rickson und Shining City unter der Regie von Conor McPherson, für die er einen Irish Theatre Award gewann und 2004 für den Evening Standard Theatre Award als Bester Schauspieler nominiert wurde. Townsends Fernsehkarriere begann mit verschiedenen Sendungen für RTÉ in Dublin. Seit seinem Umzug nach London war er unter anderem in Spooks, The Commander, Hustle, Waking the Dead und Omagh Bombing zu sehen. Zu seinen Filmcredits zählen Mike Newells Into the West, Jim Sheridans In the Name of the Father mit Daniel Day-Lewis, The Van von Stephen Frears, Peter Greenaways The Tulse Luper Suitcases, The Libertine mit Johnny Depp, Paul Morrisons Wondrous Oblivion mit Delroy Lindo, John Boormans The Tiger's Tale und Michael Radfords Flawless. Er lebt derzeit in London.
