John Patrick Shanley ist ein US-amerikanischer Dramatiker, Theaterregisseur und Filmemacher. Er gewann 1987 den Oscar für das beste Originaldrehbuch für den Film „Mondsüchtig“. Sein Theaterstück „Doubt: A Parable“ wurde 2005 mit dem Pulitzer-Preis für Drama und dem Tony Award für das beste Theaterstück ausgezeichnet. 2008 schrieb und inszenierte er dessen Verfilmung „Glaubensfrage“ und erhielt dafür 2009 eine Oscar-Nominierung für das beste adaptierte Drehbuch.
