Susan Hayward, eigentlich Edythe Marrenner, war eine US-amerikanische Filmschauspielerin. Bei einer Hutmodenschau wurde eine Mitarbeiterin des Filmproduzenten David O. Selznick auf Edythe aufmerksam. Er lud sie daraufhin zu Probeaufnahmen als Scarlett O’Hara in der geplanten Verfilmung von Vom Winde verweht nach Hollywood ein, da sie der Figur nahekam, erhielt die begehrte Rolle aber wegen mangelnder Erfahrung nicht, jedoch ihren ersten Filmvertrag. In Anlehnung an den Namen des von ihm verehrten Schauspielers Leland Hayward gab Selznick ihr den Künstlernamen Susan Hayward.
