Henry Hathaway, geboren als Marquis Henri Léopold de Fiennes, war ein US-amerikanischer Filmregisseur. Hathaway wurde für Abenteuerfilme, seine Beiträge zu Hollywoods Schwarzer Serie sowie dem Westerngenre der 1960er Jahre bekannt. Populär wurde sein Film Niagara, mit dem er Marilyn Monroe zu Weltruhm verhalf. Hathaway erlernte den Beruf des Regisseurs in den 1920er Jahren als Assistent von Filmemachern wie Josef von Sternberg und Victor Fleming. Ab 1932 konnte er dann eigenverantwortlich Regie führen und wurde einer der erfolgreichsten Regisseure von Western. Für Bengali war er 1936 für den Oscar als bester Regisseur nominiert.
