Feind im Dunkel (1946)
Privatdetektiv Bradford Galt kommt von San Francisco nach New York, um ein neues Leben anzufangen, nachdem er unschuldig im Gefängnis gesessen hatte. Obwohl der Start in Gestalt seiner neuen, bildhübschen Sekretärin Kathleen viel versprechend ist, stellen sich bald darauf Schwierigkeiten ein: Alles deutet auf Galt als den Täter hin, als Kunstsammler Cathcart für das Ableben des Geliebten seiner Frau und Ex-Partners von Galt sorgt. Gemeinsam mit Cathleen hat Galt alle Hände voll zu tun, den wahren Schuldigen ans Licht zu bringen. Atmosphärisch dichter Film noir von Henry Hathaway, der zwar mit Mark Stevens nicht mit einem ganz großen Namen in der Rolle des Helden aufwarten kann, dieses Manko aber durch die großartige Leistung von Lucille Ball mehr als wettmachen kann - nicht umsonst wurde Ball in den Credits an erster Stelle genannt. Kameramann Joseph MacDonald sorgt für die passend düsteren Bilder und präsentiert beeindruckende Aufnahmen der Schattenseiten Manhattans.
