Ronald Neame war ein englischer Filmproduzent, Regisseur, Kameramann und Drehbuchautor. Er begann seine Karriere als Kameramann und erhielt für seine Arbeit an dem britischen Kriegsfilm „One of Our Aircraft Is Missing“ (1943) eine Oscar-Nominierung für die besten Spezialeffekte. Während seiner Zusammenarbeit mit Regisseur David Lean produzierte er „Begegnung“ (1945), „Geheimnisvolle Erbschaft“ (1946) und „Oliver Twist“ (1948) und erhielt dafür zwei Oscar-Nominierungen für sein Drehbuch. Neame wandte sich anschließend der Regie zu. Zu seinen bemerkenswerten Filmen zählen „Der Mann, den es nie gab“ (1956), der die britische Täuschungsaktion „Mincemeat“ aus dem Zweiten Weltkrieg dokumentiert, „Die besten Jahre der Miss Jean Brodie“ (1969), für den Maggie Smith ihren ersten Oscar erhielt, und der Action- und Katastrophenfilm „Die Höllenfahrt der Poseidon“ (1972). Er führte außerdem Regie bei „Bretter, die die Welt bedeuten“ (1963), Judy Garlands letztem Film, und bei „Scrooge“ (1970) mit Albert Finney in der Hauptrolle. Für seine Verdienste um die Filmindustrie wurde Neame 1996 zum Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) ernannt und erhielt den BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award, die höchste Auszeichnung, die die British Film Academy einem Filmemacher verleihen kann.
