Louis Daniel Armstrong, Spitzname „Satchmo“, „Satch“ und „Pops“, war ein US-amerikanischer Jazz- und Blues-Trompeter und Sänger. Er zählte zu den einflussreichsten Persönlichkeiten des Jazz. Seine Karriere umspannte fünf Jahrzehnte und mehrere Epochen der Jazzgeschichte. Armstrong erhielt zahlreiche Auszeichnungen, darunter den Grammy Award für die beste männliche Gesangsdarbietung für „Hello, Dolly!“ im Jahr 1965 sowie posthum den Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award im Jahr 1972. Sein Einfluss reichte über verschiedene Musikgenres hinaus, was sich unter anderem in seiner Aufnahme in die DownBeat Jazz Hall of Fame, die Rock and Roll Hall of Fame und die National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame widerspiegelte.
