Jean Harlow, geboren als Harlean Harlow Carpenter, war eine US-amerikanische Schauspielerin. Bekannt für ihre Darstellung von „bösen Mädchen“, war sie das führende Sexsymbol der frühen 1930er Jahre und eine der prägenden Figuren der Vor-Code-Ära des amerikanischen Kinos. Harlow, oft auch „Blonde Sexbombe“ und „Platinblondine“ genannt, war für ihre Leinwandpersönlichkeit als „lachender Vamp“ bekannt. Obwohl sie nur neun Jahre in der Filmbranche tätig, wurde aber zu einem der größten Filmstars Hollywoods. 1999 rangierte Harlow auf Platz 22 der Liste der größten weiblichen Filmlegenden des American Film Institute.[3] Harlow wurde zunächst von Howard Hughes unter Vertrag genommen, der ihre erste große Rolle in „Hell’s Angels“ (1930) inszenierte. Nach einer Reihe von Filmen, die von der Kritik vermasselt wurden, und Hughes' nachlassendem Interesse an ihrer Karriere kaufte Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer 1932 Harlows Vertrag auf und besetzte sie in Hauptrollen in einer Reihe von Hits, die auf ihrem komödiantischen Talent basierten. Ihre Popularität konkurrierte mit der von MGMs Top-Hauptdarstellerinnen Joan Crawford, Greta Garbo und Norma Shearer und übertraf sie schließlich. Sie starb im Alter von 26 Jahren an Nierenversagen während der Dreharbeiten zu Saratoga. MGM stellte den Film mithilfe von Körperdoubles fertig und veröffentlichte ihn weniger als zwei Monate nach ihrem Tod; er wurde der erfolgreichste Film des Jahres 1937 und auch der erfolgreichste Film ihrer Karriere.
