Richard Cameron Wattis (25. Februar 1912 – 1. Februar 1975) war ein englischer Schauspieler. Nachdem er das Familienunternehmen verlassen hatte, wurde Wattis Schauspieler. Sein Debüt gab er am Croydon Repertory Theatre und trat häufig im Londoner West End auf. Sein Filmdebüt gab er in „A Yank at Oxford“ (1938). Der Kriegsdienst unterbrach jedoch seine Schauspielkarriere. Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs diente er als Leutnant in der Abteilung für Handfeuerwaffen der Special Operations Executive (SOE) auf Station VI (auch James-Bond-Autor Ian Fleming war in dieser Abteilung tätig). Bekannt wurde er vor allem durch seine Auftritte mit der markanten runden Brille in britischen Komödien der 1950er- und 1960er-Jahre, oft als „Mann aus dem Ministerium“ oder in einer ähnlichen Rolle. Er wirkte auch als Sekretär von Lord Scrumptious in „Chitty Chitty Bang Bang“ mit. Zu seinen Auftritten zählten die St. Trinian’s-Filme (Die Schönheiten von St. Trinian’s, Mord in St. Trinian’s und Der große Zugraub von St. Trinian’s), in denen er Manton Bassett verkörperte, einen Beamten und stellvertretenden Schuldirektor im Bildungsministerium. Dort war er oft mit finsterer Miene und Empörung über das unverschämte Verhalten anderer Figuren zu sehen. Dem amerikanischen Publikum ist Wattis wahrscheinlich am besten für seine Darstellung des britischen Beamten Northbrook in Der Prinz und die Tänzerin (1957) bekannt. In späteren Filmen, wie beispielsweise seiner Hauptrolle in Games That Lovers Play, brach er mit diesem Rollenmuster. Zu Wattis’ weiteren Filmen gehören Hobson’s Choice, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Carry On Spying, Die Colditz-Story, Zahnarzt im Einsatz, Very Important Person, Die glücklichsten Tage deines Lebens und Der längste Tag. Er trat auch im Fernsehen auf, unter anderem in einer langjährigen Rolle in „Sykes“ sowie in Gastauftritten in „Danger Man“, „The Prisoner“, „The Goodies“, „Hancock's Half Hour“ und „Father, Dear Father“. Von 1957 bis 1958 spielte er Peter Jamison in drei Folgen der amerikanischen Sitcom „Dick and the Duchess“.
