Why does a Saint provoke such hatred in those who seek to rule the country? For many people, Our Lady of Aparecida is the patroness of Brazil—the mother of Jesus. Yet, Bishop JB Carvalho has labeled Aparecida the “right-hand woman of Satan” and called for her to be stripped of her status as Brazil’s patroness. It was in his very church that Flávio Bolsonaro chose to be baptized. Among so many pastors, why surround oneself with someone who spreads hatred against people’s faith?
