Zak Gibbs es un estudiante de instituto que ha ahorrado durante mucho tiempo para comprarse el coche de sus sueños. Su padre, sin embargo, debe dar el visto bueno al vehículo antes de hacer la compra. El problema es que siempre está demasiado ocupado en sus investigaciones científicas como para poder acompañarle al concesionario. Uno de sus antiguos alumnos le envía un extraño reloj. El profesor lo deja en el sótano y se va con prisa a unas conferencias a otra ciudad.
