Steven Frederic Seagal (pronunciado con acento en la última sílaba: /sɨˈgɑːl/; nacido en Lansing, Míchigan el 10 de abril de 1952) es un actor de cine de acción, experto en artes marciales japonesas y músico estadounidense. Steven Seagal obtuvo el grado de maestro cinturón negro, séptimo dan en el arte marcial japonés del Aikidō, y además fue el primer occidental en dirigir su propia escuela o dōjō de dicha especialidad en el propio Japón; el Tenshin Dojo, que ahora dirige su ex esposa, también maestra de Aikido, Miyako Fujitani. Además, tiene amplios conocimientos de kenjutsu (estilos de esgrima clásica japonesa) y en los fundamentos del karate-Do. Seagal es conocido en el cine por tener una forma muy peculiar y ruda de luchar, alejada de la espectacularidad habitual en este género; la suya es básicamente una forma basada en golpes tajantes y patadas bruscas, provenientes del Karate-Do tradicional japonés en combinación con las luxaciones, inmovilizaciones y lanzamientos típicos del Aikido. Respecto a su entrenamiento en otras artes marciales, a lo largo de su carrera cinematográfica ha incluido algunos movimientos de jiu-jitsu brasileño tras entrenar brevemente con los hermanos Machado para su película Alerta máxima 2 en 1995, y posteriormente algunos movimientos de eskrima filipina, y técnicas variadas provenientes de los estilos marciales chinos como tai chi chuan y wing chun, y de otras disciplinas con el fin de dar una mayor espectacularidad a varias coreografías. Junto a todo ello, Seagal incursionó en la música blues: ha llegado a editar dos discos y trabaja como sheriff adjunto en el condado de Jefferson Parish en el estado de Luisiana, al sur de los Estados Unidos. Steven Seagal también es conocido por su amistad con el actual presidente de Rusia Vladimir Putin (también practicante de artes marciales), y por apoyarlo en su política exterior.
