Ruth Elizabeth "Bette" Davis (5 de abril de 1908 - 6 de octubre de 1989) fue una actriz estadounidense de cine, televisión y teatro. Conocida por su disposición a interpretar personajes antipáticos, fue muy apreciada por sus actuaciones en una variedad de géneros cinematográficos; desde melodramas criminales contemporáneos hasta películas históricas y de época y comedias ocasionales, aunque sus mayores éxitos fueron sus papeles en dramas románticos. Después de aparecer en obras de Broadway, Davis se mudó a Hollywood en 1930, pero sus primeras películas para Universal Studios no tuvieron éxito. Se unió a Warner Bros. en 1932 y estableció su carrera con varias actuaciones aclamadas por la crítica. En 1937 intentó liberarse de su contrato y, aunque perdió un caso judicial muy publicitado, marcó el comienzo del período más exitoso de su carrera. Hasta finales de la década de 1940, fue una de las protagonistas más famosas del cine estadounidense, conocida por su estilo contundente e intenso.
