La historia es la de un simpático trío de ladrones de diseños de famosos modistos comandados por el seductor Sherwood Nash (William Powell). Una vez explotado el mercado en los Estados Unidos, no tienen más remedio que buscar nuevas formas de engaño en París. En la capital francesa Sherwood tiene un afortunado encuentro con una antigua novia, que le consigue un pase especial para el desfile de modas más importante del año. Una ocasión ideal para robar los vestidos del diseñador.
