La danseuse Liane Martin est persuadée qu'une créature invisible la suit sans cesse. A la suite d'accidents et de meurtres survenus dans le théâtre où la danseuse et sa troupe travaillent, la police enquête aidée par un agent du FBI Joe Como. Celui-ci est plus particulièrement chargé de la protection d’un savant réputé : le professeur Erasmus. Le savant aurait découvert le moyen de rendre invisible les corps opaque. Mais le Dr Mabuse a eu vent de cette création...
