Il importe d'être Constant (1952)
Jack est un jeune célibataire tombé sous le charme de Gwendolyn, la cousine de son meilleur ami. Algernon. Lui-même est follement amoureux de Cecily, la magnifique petite fille du père adoptif de Jack. Les choses seraient parfaites si Jack n’avait comme habitude de se présenter comme Constant, son frère imaginaire, bien utile pour fuir ses responsabilités, et qu’Algernon n’utilisait pas le même sobriquet pour échapper à d’ennuyeuses conventions sociales. Mais le subterfuge marche si bien que les deux prétendantes se figurent d’être fiancées à Constant. Et quand la mère de Gwendolyn vient mettre son grain de sel dans les affaires de ce beau monde, les quiproquos prennent une ampleur incontrôlable.
