L'Heure magique (1998)
Harry Ross, ancien policier devenu un privé lucide et désenchanté, puis homme à tout faire pour sa riche clientèle de Los Angeles, vit à l'automne de sa vie chez un couple de vieux amis, Jack Ames et son épouse Catherine, dont il est vaguement amoureux. Se sachant condamné à brève échéance, Jack demande à Harry de livrer discrètement à une certaine Gloria Lamar une enveloppe contenant une somme importante. Agressé au cours de la livraison, Harry entame une longue et tortueuse enquête qui lui en apprendra autant sur lui-même que sur ses amis.
