Dans sa somptueuse demeure de Manhattan, la star des planches Paul Ormon reçoit son tout nouveau queue de pie. Mais le coupeur Bartoldi, renvoyé pour un revers trop long par le couturier, a jeté une malédiction sur ce costume qui porterait malheur à quiconque le vêtirait. Lorsque Ormon se rend chez sa maîtresse, Ethel Halloway, l'enchaînement des événements laisse à penser que le vêtement est effectivement maudit. Mais s'agit-il de magie noire ou blanche ?
