Mrs. Soffel (1984)
Basé sur une histoire vraie, Mme Soffel est situé à Pittsburgh près de l'aube du 20ème siècle. Peter Soffel est le gardien d'une prison de haute sécurité, et sa femme Kate vient souvent par lire la Bible à haute voix aux détenus, en dépit de sa santé fragile. Tout en faisant sa tournée, elle fait la connaissance des frères Biddle, Ed et Jack , qui sont condamnés à mort pour assassiner et vol qualifié. Ed est devenu quelque chose d'une célébrité grâce à sa campagne épistolaire, dans laquelle il a fait appel dans les colonnes lettre-à-la-rédacteur en chef de la presse populaire pour surseoir à l'exécution de son frère et lui-même. Sa beauté, l'intelligence et le charme font une forte impression sur Kate, dont le mariage offre sa petite excitation. Avec le temps, Kate se trouve tomber amoureux d'Ed, et elle découvre qu'elle est réceptive à l'improviste sa suggestion qu'elle lui permettent d'échapper à.
