Un mari idéal (1947)
1895. Mrs. Laura Cheveley, une jeune femme au passé trouble, est de retour à Londres après des années d'absence. Elle profite d'un secret découvert sur Sir Robert Chiltern pour le faire chanter : soit il couvre un scandale financier, soit elle révèle l'origine frauduleuse de sa fortune, ruinant ainsi sa réputation et l'amour de sa femme, qui l'idéalise en « mari parfait ». Heureusement, le Vicomte Arthur Goring surveille tout cela de près et à un plan pour empêcher son ancienne maîtresse de nuire.
