Loin de la foule déchaînée (1967)
Situé dans le rural West Country dans victorienne Angleterre , l'histoire propose Bethsabée Everdene, une belle, entêté, esprit indépendant femme qui hérite de la ferme de son oncle et décide de le gérer elle - même. Cela engendre une certaine désapprobation de la communauté agricole locale. Elle emploie un ancien voisin, Gabriel Oak, à son berger; rejeté par elle comme un soupirant, Gabriel a perdu son troupeau de moutons quand ils se sont échappés de leur enclos et est tombé d'une falaise abrupte. Quand il a mal interprété son inconstance et propose de lui, Bethsabée promet d'examiner son offre. Mais elle devient amoureux de Frank Troy, un sergent de cavalerie fringant.
