Au début du XXe siècle, Raspoutine, paysan illettré mais profondément mystique et doué d’un charisme et d’un magnétisme hors du commun, fut pour le couple impérial de Russie, dévasté par l’hémophilie du Tsarévitch et sourd aux revendications menaçant le trône, un recours désespéré pour sauver l’un et l’autre. Mais la haine que suscita ce moujik précipita l’effondrement de l’Empire, dans la révolution et le massacre de la famille impériale.
