Un cuisinier illettré qui travaille pour une compagnie de cafétéria tente d'attirer l'attention d'une récente veuve. Alors qu'ils font connaissance, elle s'aperçoit de son incapacité à lire. Lorsqu'il perd son emploi, elle profite de l'occasion pour lui apprendre à lire dans sa cuisine chaque soir...
