Une brillante scientifique crée par accident une machine à remonter le temps à partir d'une machine à laver. Le gouvernement japonais arrive à la convaincre de se rendre en 1990 pour pourvoir empecher l'apparition de l'actuelle crise qui risque d'imploser l'économie du pays. Mais la mission prend une tournure dramatique quand la scientifique disparait. La seule personne capable d'aller à sa recherche dans le passé est Mayumi, sa fille agée de 17 ans!
