Soren, jeune chouette rêveuse, vit dans l'espoir de rejoindre un our les légendaires Gardiens de Ga'Hoole, le clan mythique des protecteurs du royaume des chouettes. Lorsque Soren est enlevé par une troupe de chouettes malveillantes, les Sangs Purs, il décide de s'évader avec d'autres jeunes chouettes courageuses pour chercher de l'aide. Ensemble, ils vont s'élancer à la recherche du Grand Arbre, le pays des Gardiens, l'unique espoir de Soren de vaincre les Sangs Purs.
