Leaving Las Vegas (1995)
Ben Sanderson, un scénariste hollywoodien, a tout perdu à cause de son alcoolisme : son travail, sa famille et son identité. Après avoir été licencié par la société de production pour laquelle il travaillait, Ben fait ses valises, retire le peu d'argent qui lui reste et part pour Las Vegas avec pour seul objectif de prendre une chambre dans d'hôtel et boire jusqu'à en mourir en quatre semaines. À Vegas, Ben fait la connaissance de Sera, une prostituée au passé traumatisant, sous la coupe d’un proxénète letton violent nommé Yuri. Leur rencontre n’a rien de romantique au premier abord, mais un lien tacite se crée entre eux. Peu à peu, ils entament une relation atypique, fondée sur la compréhension mutuelle et non sur le jugement. Ce n’est pas de l’amour au sens traditionnel du terme : il s’agit d’une relation pathologique, d'une compagnie tragique, d’un pacte émotionnel entre deux âmes perdues.
