Dalton Trumbo était un scénariste et romancier américain pour le cinéma et la télévision. Il faisait partie des Dix d'Hollywood, un groupe de professionnels du cinéma qui ont refusé de témoigner devant la Commission des activités anti-américaines (HUAC) en 1947, lors de l'enquête menée par cette dernière sur l'influence communiste dans l'industrie cinématographique américaine. Alors qu'il était sur la liste noire et interdit de travail, il remporta deux Oscars dans la catégorie « Meilleur scénario » pour « Vacances romaines », initialement attribué au scénariste Ian McLellan Hunter, et pour « The Brave One », attribué à Robert Rich, l'un des pseudonymes de Trumbo.
