Philip Seymour Hoffman (23 juillet 1967 - 2 février 2014) était un acteur et réalisateur américain. Hoffman a commencé à jouer à la télévision en 1991, et l'année suivante a commencé à apparaître dans les films. Il a progressivement été reconnu pour son travail de soutien dans une série de films remarquables, notamment Scent of a Woman (1992), Twister (1996), Boogie Nights (1997), Happiness (1998), The Big Lebowski (1998), Magnolia (1999), The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999), Almost Famous (2000), 25th Hour (2002), Punch-Drunk Love (2002), Cold Mountain (2003) et Along Came Polly (2004). En 2005, Hoffman a joué le rôle-titre dans le film biographique Capote (2005), pour lequel il a remporté plusieurs prix d'interprétation, dont un Oscar du meilleur acteur. Il a reçu deux autres nominations aux Oscars pour son travail de soutien dans la Guerre de Charlie Wilson (2007) et Doubt (2008). D'autres films acclamés par la critique ces dernières années comprennent Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (2007) et The Savages (2007). En 2010, Hoffman a fait ses débuts de réalisateur de long métrage avec Jack Goes Boating. Hoffman est aussi un acteur de théâtre et metteur en scène accompli.
