Biographie:

James Eugene "Jim" Carrey est un acteur, comédien, chanteur et écrivain canado-américain. Il a reçu deux Golden Globe Awards et a également été nominé à quatre reprises. Carrey a commencé la comédie stand-up en 1979, se produisant chez Yuk's à Toronto, en Ontario. Après avoir acquis de l'importance en 1981, il a commencé à travailler au Comedy Store de Los Angeles où il a rapidement été remarqué par le comédien Rodney Dangerfield, qui l'a immédiatement signé pour ouvrir ses performances en tournée. Carrey, longtemps intéressé par le cinéma et la télévision, a développé une amitié étroite avec le comédien Damon Wayans, qui lui a décroché un rôle dans la comédie à sketch In Living Color, dans laquelle il a incarné divers personnages au cours de la saison 1990 de l'émission. Ayant eu peu de succès dans les téléfilms et plusieurs films à petit budget, Carrey a été choisi comme personnage principal dans Ace Ventura : Pet Detective, dont la première a eu lieu en février 1994 et qui a rapporté plus de 72 millions de dollars sur le marché intérieur. Le film a donné naissance à une suite, Ace Ventura : When Nature Calls (1995), dans lequel il reprend le rôle de Ventura. Des rôles de premier plan ont suivi lorsqu'il a été choisi comme Stanley Ipkiss dans The Mask (1994), pour lequel il a obtenu une nomination aux Golden Globe Award pour le meilleur acteur dans une comédie ou une comédie musicale, et comme Lloyd Christmas dans le film comique Dumb and Dumber (1994). Entre 1996 et 1999, Carrey a poursuivi son succès après avoir obtenu des rôles principaux dans plusieurs films très populaires dont The Cable Guy (1996), Liar Liar Liar (1997), dans lequel il a été nominé pour un autre Golden Globe Award et dans les films acclamés par la critique The Truman Show et Man on the Moon, en 1998 et 1999, respectivement.
