Jack Benny (14 février 1894 – 26 décembre 1974) était un comédien, artiste de vaudeville et acteur américain de radio, de télévision et de cinéma. Considéré comme l'un des plus grands artistes américains du XXe siècle, Benny incarnait le rôle de l'avare comique, s'obstinant à paraître avoir 39 ans sur scène malgré son âge réel, et jouant souvent du violon avec une facilité déconcertante. Benny était réputé pour son sens du timing comique et son talent pour déclencher le rire par un simple silence ou une expression, comme son fameux « Eh bien ! » exaspéré. Ses émissions de radio et de télévision, immensément populaires des années 1930 aux années 1960, ont profondément influencé le genre de la sitcom. Dean Martin, lors du roast de Johnny Carson en novembre 1973, le présenta comme « le Satchel Paige du monde de la comédie ».
