Ethan Green Hawke (né le 6 novembre 1970) est un acteur, scénariste et réalisateur américain. Il a fait ses débuts dans le long métrage en 1985 avec le film de science-fiction Explorers, avant de faire une apparition en première partie dans le drame Dead Poets Society en 1989, qui est considéré comme sa percée. Il a ensuite joué dans des films tels que White Fang (1991), A Midnight Clear (1992) et Alive (1993) avant de jouer dans le drame Reality Bites de la Génération X en 1994, pour lequel il a été acclamé par la critique. En 1995, il a joué dans le drame romantique Before Sunrise, puis dans sa suite Before Sunset (2004). En 2001, Hawke a été choisi comme policier débutant dans Training Day, pour lequel il a reçu une nomination à la Screen Actors Guild et aux Academy Awards dans la catégorie Meilleur acteur de soutien. Parmi les autres films, mentionnons le long métrage de science-fiction Gattaca (1997), le rôle-titre dans Hamlet de Michael Almereyda (2000), le thriller d'action Assault on Precinct 13 (2005) et le drame criminel Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (2007). Hawke a joué dans de nombreuses productions théâtrales dont The Seagull, Henry IV, Hurlyburly, The Cherry Orchard, The Winter's Tale et The Coast of Utopia, pour lequel il a été mis en nomination pour un Tony Award. Il a fait ses débuts de réalisateur avec le long métrage indépendant Chelsea Walls en 2002. En novembre 2007, Hawke a mis en scène sa première pièce, Jonathan Marc Sherman's Things We Want. En plus d'être acteur, il a écrit deux romans, The Hottest State (1996) et Ash Wednesday (2002). Entre 1998 et 2004, Hawke a été marié à l'actrice Uma Thurman.
