Il cattivo tenente (1992)
Il film narra le vicende di un tenente della polizia americana, corrotto, dedito a tutti i tipi di droga, alcool e gioco d'azzardo. Il tenente pare avere soltanto due scopi: drogarsi e scommettere. Solo nell'uso di stupefacenti riesce bene, mentre scommette compulsivamente esibendo teorie strampalate per spiegare le sue scelte. Quando una giovane suora viene violentata in una chiesa da due balordi, il tenente inizia a occuparsi del caso, ma è sconvolto dalla reazione della donna, che perdona i suoi aggressori. Solo alla fine, in una chiesa, in preda a una crisi mistica durante la quale realizza il significato della sua vita amorale, ha una visione in cui Gesù gli viene incontro, e capisce il significato del perdono della suora. Il poliziotto si getta per le strade all'inseguimento dei colpevoli, e, una volta trovatili, anziché ucciderli li lascia fuggire, preferendo assecondare il perdono della suora anziché la propria sete di vendetta.
