Il grande paese (1958)
Il comandante di marina James McKay, scapolo e non più giovanissimo, innamoratosi (ricambiato) a Baltimora della graziosa ed irruente Patricia Terrill, figlia di un ranchero del West, l'ex maggiore Henry Terrill, rispedisce la fidanzata a casa fin tanto che sistema le sue cose, per poi raggiungerla. Arrivato dopo svariati mesi nel villaggio di San Rafael, nel Nuovo Messico, viene accolto entusiasticamente sia dalla fidanzata che dal futuro suocero, ma non così dal fattore del ranch, Steve Leech, giovane e rude cow boy che nutriva qualche speranza riguardo alla figlia del padrone, vedovo e privo di eredi maschi.
