Emperor (2012)
Tommy Lee Jones interpreta il ruolo di un iconico personaggio della storia del XX secolo come il generale Douglas MacArthur, uno dei protagonisti della II Guerra Mondiale e della capitolazione del Giappone. Emperor, infatti, è un dramma storico incentrato sulla figura dell’allora imperatore nipponico Hirohito (lo stesso ritratto da Sokurov ne Il sole), e sul dibattito avvenuto dopo l’occupazione del paese del Sol Levante sul fatto se dovesse o meno essere processato per crimini di guerra. Su questo sfondo storico, Webber ha poi intessuto una storia d’amore tra il un altro generale statunitense, Bonner Fellers (interpretato da Matthew Fox di Lost) e una ragazza giapponese conosciuta negli Stati Uniti prima della guerra e successivamente rimpatriata.
