La vita segreta delle api (2008)
Non ha certo tutte le sicurezze del mondo la piccola Lily che a 4 anni spara alla madre per errore ed è costretta a passare i seguenti 10 anni con un padre che non le vuole bene e non manca mai di farlo notare. Così quando la misura è colma scappa per intraprendere un viaggio alla scoperta delle proprie radici (sulle orme di uno simile fatto dalla madre) assieme alla sua badante di colore proprio nell'anno della firma della dichiarazione dei diritti civili per gli afroamericani. Ad accoglierla in un nuovo alveo familiare saranno tre sorelle di colore che producono miele, ma nonostante il benessere Lily imparerà che una cosa è firmare un pezzo di carta e una cosa è farlo diventare realtà.
