Niki è un ex bambino prodigio del pianoforte con un dono rarissimo: un udito assoluto capace di cogliere ogni vibrazione, ogni micro–suono nascosto nel mondo. Un talento straordinario, ma anche una condanna. La sua ipersensibilità ai rumori è talmente acuta da costringerlo a indossare protezioni auricolari e ad abbandonare il sogno di diventare pianista. Il giovane si reinventa così come accordatore di pianoforti, preciso e solitario, ma la sua vita tranquilla cambia quando qualcuno scopre che il suo orecchio perfetto può essere usato per molto più che accordare strumenti. Da quel momento Niki si ritrova coinvolto in un gioco che non ha scelto e dovrà fare i conti con il peso del suo dono e con i limiti che gli ha imposto per anni.
