La pazza di Chaillot (1969)
Un gruppo di uomini si riunisce in un bar del quartiere di Chaillot, a Parigi, per discutere della fondazione di una nuova istituzione che offra loro la possibilità di accrescere il loro potere. Al gruppo si unisce un ricercatore che, avendo scoperto nel sottosuolo della città il petrolio, convince suo nipote a collocare una bomba nel comune, reo di avergli negato il permesso di trivellare. Il giovane non se la sente, getta la valigetta contenente l'ordigno nel fiume e tenta il suicidio. Viene raccolto da Amelia, una donna stravagante che tutti chiamano contessa.
