Gina (Helen Hunt) è una giovane poliziotta alle prese con un caso delicato. C'è un tale che ha ucciso tre bambini ed è ancora in libertà. C'è anche un sospetto, ma trovare le prove e tutt'altra questione. L'unico modo sarebbe quello di ottenere da lui una confessione. Allora Gina entra in contatto con lui, diventa sua amica e confidente e alla fine riesce a fargli confessare i suoi delitti.
