Ispirato ad un episodio realmente accaduto nella seconda metà dell'Ottocento, il film ricostruisce con toni epici e altamente spettacolari la battaglia combattuta dagli zulù del Natal contro le truppe britanniche per ottenere l'indipendenza. L'astuzia e il coraggio degli indigeni ebbero la meglio: il ben equipaggiato ma troppo baldanzoso esercito inglese fu massacrato.
